York Newsletter November 21

3rd November 2021 | York

Manager’s Welcome

The atmosphere in the club throughout October has been great - it has been amazing to see so many of you attend classes, touching base with the gym team for a review of your gym programme and meeting up with fellow members in the club lounge for a coffee and a catch up.

I would like to quickly mention that Craig has moved into a group role at Roko and will be working from each club in turn (you will still see him occasionally!). I and the rest of the team would like to thank him for his hard work here at York, especially during the last couple of years and we wish him all the best in his new role.

The majority of this newsletter will be explaining some exciting improvements that are happening in the club during December. As I said last month, your experience as members is at the heart of everything we do and your feedback is very important to us.

We have been losing tiles from the bottom of the main pool during general use over a prolonged period of time. This has now become increasingly uncomfortable for users and therefore has been a common source of member feedback. Despite many attempts to rectify the issue with various contractors, these attempts have been unsuccessful in the long term.

I am therefore very excited to announce that we will be having the main pool base completely re-tiled during the month of December. This is by no means a temporary fix – it is a complete refurbishment which is amazing news, however regrettably there will be some disruption in the form of pool closures. Any disruption is regrettable; however it is now essential that this work is completed in order to provide the right environment for our members to fully enjoy the area.

Please find some further detail in the rest of the club newsletter below – we will do everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum, however I do ask that you bear in mind the scale of the works required in order to complete this refurb to a high standard.

I’d like to thank you personally for your continued support and I very much look forward to seeing you in your club very soon.

Best regards

Tom Jeffery
Deputy General Manager

we're improving your club

Pool closures as a result of the main pool refurbishment
Due to the nature of the main pool refurbishment work, both the main and splash pool will be closed from Monday 29th November until Monday 3rd January 2022. On the advice of the contractors, we regrettably cannot open the splash pool during the refurbishment period for health and safety reasons due to contractor access, storage of equipment, noise of the work itself and the use of chemicals.

Spa area
The spa pool will also be closed for the duration of the refurbishment. The water for the spa pool is sourced from the main pool and the main pool will be completely drained. Therefore we cannot maintain our day to day spa pool operation.

During the first phase of work, which involves completely stripping the old pool tiles, the sauna and steam room will be shut for your health and safety and we plan to make some improvements to these facilities during this time. We intend to re-open the sauna and steam room after this stage of work; however access will be limited due to the space available on poolside. We therefore anticipate some form of booking once we are given the all clear to re-open the sauna and steam room during the refurbishment period and hope this will be during the week commencing 6th December 2021 – stay tuned for further updates.

Looking ahead…
It is a very exciting time at the club, with a complete refurbishment of the main pool following the complete gym refurbishment in December 2019. This is short term disruption for a long term benefit. We hope to fully re-open the poolside area on Monday 3rd January 2022 from 6am – definitely a date for the new 2022 diary!

And Finally – the team are still here to help and support you

Children’s swimming lessons

Due to the pool refurbishment works, we will be closing both swimming pools after Sunday 28th November 2021 and they will remain closed until the work is completed and we have carried out the relevant pool testing at the end of December. Note that we would usually break for 2 weeks during the festive period, therefore we have chosen to undertake this work at this time to minimise disruption to our swim programme.

What does this mean for my child’s swimming lessons?
The final day of swimming lessons before the closure will be Sunday 28th November 2021, after which they will then be suspended. Swimming lessons will recommence after the festive period from Monday 3rd January 2022.

What happens to my swimming lesson direct debit payment for December?
You do not need to do anything - we will automatically freeze your December direct debit payment. This will recommence in January when lessons are due to re-start. Please do not cancel your direct debit payment as this will mean your child loses their place and we will not be able to reinstate once the pool opens as the place will have been allocated elsewhere.

What if I’d like to keep my direct debit open?
If you would like to support the club and wish us to collect your swimming lesson direct debit as normal on 1st December 2021, as a token of our gratitude we can offer you:

-        If you are a non-member, the opportunity to use the club full access for the whole month of December free of other charges

-        If you are a member, the opportunity to allow one named guest to use the club, full access for the whole month of December free of other charges

If you would like to take advantage of this offer please email Tom Jeffery -  tjeffery@york.roko.co.uk  before Monday 15th November 2021 and we will be in touch to confirm your relevant access.

Finally, may we take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and we very much look forward to welcoming you back to our brand new pool very shortly.

Introducing Reflexology, Relax & Rebalance with Cathy

Hello, I’m Cathy.

Exciting news … I will be offering appointments for Reflexology and Indian Head Massage at Roko on Saturdays from 20th November. I can also offer evening appointments on request.

Get in touch & find out more http://www.reflexologywithcathy.co.uk

About me:
I have worked in an office for over 20 years and I live with my partner and 3 sons. After going through a difficult time where I was hit with anxiety which impacted every area of my day to day life, I became interested in complementary therapies. I fell in love with reflexology decided to obtain my Level 3 VTCT diploma in Clinical Reflexology in 2019. In 2021 I also obtained my diploma in Indian Head Massage.

Whether you are looking for support with an existing health condition, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little “me” time, my aim is to help you feel calmer and improve your overall well being.

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the theory that all the systems, organs and structures of the body are reflected in specific reflex points in the hands, feet, ears or face. I currently work primarily on the feet but also the hands if preferred. By applying pressure to the areas of the feet or hands a Reflexologist can help the body restore its’ own healthy balance.

It has the benefit of being a deeply relaxing therapy, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself. Usually after a treatment, your tension may be reduced and you may feel relaxed. You may notice a better sleep, and an improved sense of wellbeing.

Indian Head Massage
I also offer Indian head massage that focuses on the neck, shoulders, head and face. Another wonderful relaxing treatment

Look out for posters and leaflets in the club. Appointments offered to both members and non-members.

Launch offer for members - Get £5 off a full reflexology treatment or Indian head massage if you book in before Christmas.
