York Newsletter November 2019

6th November 2019 | York

Manager’s Welcome

Hopefully everyone survived Halloween and enjoyed the trick or treat wheel of fortune which we had in club. October proved to be a fantastic month for sport with England’s fantastic Rugby World Cup result and a marathon that was run in under 2 hours - which is the equivalent of running on one of our treadmills at speed 21kph for 26.2 miles. Hopefully you, our members, are proud of your own personal efforts and are progressing nicely towards any current goals that you have set for yourself.

With that being said I’d like to mention that we as a club are progressing nicely towards our goals of making the experience for you as good as it can be. During November we will be making significant changes in our WiFi which will be installed across the club. Once we have exact dates and the new procedure to log on we will communicate this to you all.

We have launched a member of the month scheme, please scroll down for more info and to see our first winner which is very well deserved.

And finally... We also have some other very exciting things in the pipeline at the minute...

More information will be shared soon. In the meantime keep your eyes peeled on all our communication platforms as it’s very, very exciting…

app improvements to class waiting lists

Great news - when you use the app to book classes, we have added an automatic online booking function to our waiting list emails!

When a class becomes available that you are on the waiting list for, you can now simply click the "book now" button on the waiting list alert email and it will automatically book you onto that class if there is still availability.

We hope you find this new functionality helpful.

Introducing: Member of the Month
Roko York are delighted to introduce our, all new, member of the month award. The member of the month is nominated and voted for by the Roko Team and will win a meal for 2 at one of our fabulous partner restaurants. Plus a few extra goodies…

Our First Member of the Month goes to a lady who has undergone an amazing health, fitness and body transformation, having adapted her whole lifestyle to achieve her results. She works extremely hard in both classes and the gym and has overcome significant injury to achieve her goals. Recently she has also dedicated herself to raising money for charity having participated in a parachute jump! You can often find this member with the whole family in tow having encouraged her daughters to participate in our fitness classes too. The whole team appreciates the kindness and support she shows to us on a daily basis. We are therefore delighted to announce our first member of the month is:
... Dawn Ross

Congratulations Dawn and keep up the good work. From the whole team here at Roko!

Insights to the Roko App – Member Co-operation Required
We would like to take this opportunity to give you some valuable insights into how the Roko app is currently being used. Although lots of classes will show large waiting lists throughout the week, in many cases when the actual class starts there are spaces in the class because either lots of people have cancelled or simply not turned up for the class.

To counteract this we are asking for your help and actively are encouraging members to only book classes they are committed to attending, and if for some reason they cannot attend to ensure that they cancel their place via the app, over the phone, or in club to allow another member to take that place. We are encouraging members to cancel with as much notice as possible to give others on the waiting list the best chance of gaining a space on the class. We also ask that if you are on a waiting list – if your circumstances change in such a way that you no longer are able to attend the class that you remove yourself from the waiting list. The reason for this is simply, if you are on the waiting list - you still have a very good chance of getting a place on the class in question. This allows the team to contact only the members that still wish to participate in the class.

Moving forward we are generating a daily dishonour report which will give the team an indication of frequent last minute booking cancellations (2 hours or less before the start of the class) and class ‘no shows’.

We pride ourselves on having a great group exercise timetable with lots of member participation and we will, with your support, continue to improve the overall member experience so that you can continue to enjoy the benefits of membership with Roko.

A Polite Reminders to Members
We would like to take this opportunity to remind members that in the interest of hygiene, to shower both before entering the pool and between use of spa facilities and swimming pools.
Please can we also remind members that the disabled parking bays and parent and child bays are reserved for disabled users and parents who are using the club with their children. We thank you for your cooperation.

Lifestyle... Nutrition... Detox...
How does lifestyle and nutrition affect the inner workings of each individual organ and why do we suffer from aches, pains and postural imbalances?
Here’s a quick look at the circulatory and lymphatic systems; Our muscles produce waste products and the lymphatic glands fill up.  When they’re unable to efficiently empty, our muscular functions decline resulting in postural stresses and increases our body’s ability to store fat around our lymphatic sites. Walking Football at PlayFootball
To supplement your Roko gym sessions, why not join our neighbours at PlayFootball, Clifton Moor for Walking Football?
Walking Football has become a national phenomenon over the last few years with, it is thought, tens of thousands of participants now playing regularly across the country. Open to all but particularly suitable for players, both male and female, aged 50+, PlayFootball now host two morning walking football sessions on Tuesday and Thursday every week, kicking off at 10:00.
Walking Football at PlayFootball is played in a friendly and empathetic spirit by a group of mixed ability players - so you don’t need to be a latter day Bobby Moore or another Harry Kane in the making to enjoy Walking Football. In fact, most players haven’t laced up their boots for 30 or even 40 years before taking up this version of the beautiful game but now take part at least once a week.

One of PlayFootball’s regular Walking Footballers, John Wilson says:
“If you are wanting some fun and good banter whilst taking part in light exercise, then I highly recommend going to a walking football session at Clifton Moor.  Whatever your age or gender or whatever your footballing standard - from ex-player to relative novice (that’s me) - our coach and organiser makes everyone feel most welcome, so don’t worry about any feeling you ‘may not be good enough’.  It’s all about exercising at an enjoyable pace. I never feel pressured to do more than I can and I certainly feel fitter for it. The free cuppa afterwards is a nice touch too! I say give it a try, you won’t regret it “.

So given that your first session is free and given the inherent benefits of regular activity (as gym members understand better than most) with like-minded people is well established, why not come along to try out Walking Football yourself and see what all the fuss is about? There’s even a cuppa on the house after every session.

Walking Football at PlayFootball Clifton Moor is every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am. For further information, call them on 01904 238230, email them at coach@playwalkingfootball.net, pop next door for a chat or simply just roll-up on a Tuesday or Thursday morning by 10am and play. Your first session free and there's a free cuppa after the game. Everybody welcome.
