The cold nights are drawing in and we always have a warm welcome for everyone as people exercise less outdoors and use us more indoors. To reflect this, we have recently increased our studio timetable to give more options for attending classes and as ever, our bistro area is open at selected times for hot drinks as well.
Firstly, we want to talk about the spa area. We want to thank you for your patience and also explain where we currently are with this.
When we initially closed this a few weeks ago, we were expecting to have some short works completed to improve the service. With further investigation, the structural issues and repairs with the spa were significant, with works quoted in excess of £150,000. Given the scale of investment and the time required to complete the repairs, it was decided to potentially move the spa as part of the wider refurb plans for the facility, so that ultimately we can offer an all new spa facility downstairs and be able to offer hopefully the best in the city once complete in the near future.
This has meant getting builders and surveyors in and planning permission before we could put a proposal to Portsmouth Football Club which has taken time. What we want to be able to deliver to you is a spa area that is not only one to be proud of, but also sustainable to last a long time; this is your club and we want to offer the best we can for you.
As a thank you for your patience, we want to offer you a few things to help your experience at the club.
• A free hot drink on us. When the winter weather comes in, it’s nice to have a hot drink to warm you up when you come in or a nice way to relax in the club lounge with others after a workout. To claim this, simply ask at reception for a voucher (one per member) to take to the bistro area to claim your free drink.
• 1 free 7 day guest pass. At this time of year family and friends visit. As such we want to give you a free 7 day guest pass to bring a friend or family member to join in your work outs. To claim this, simply ask at reception who can give the pass to you and get this activated.
• Football Prize Draw. Portsmouth Football Club have given the chance for 2 of our members to attend the game at home to AFC Wimbledon at Fratton Park on Saturday 20th November, with each winner also receiving a Portsmouth shirt signed by the first team. These are hospitality tickets including a three course meal and drink and you get to bring a guest with you as well. This is a draw with 2 of our members winning to attend. To enter, simply let reception know that you would like to be entered in the draw. Winners will be contacted by 16th November with further details.
The annual Christmas Curry And Quiz is returning next month. Hosted as ever by our very own Darin Melville, it is scheduled to take place in the club lounge on Saturday 11th December. There will be curry provided (or Vegan/vegetarian option) as well as the quiz, raffle and a disco after. This is always a big event and sells out quick. Teams can be from 2 people up to 6 and costs £9 per person with prizes for the top 3 teams and of course, curry for all.
The swim school lessons only runs for 50 weeks and this year, the last lessons are on Saturday 18th December and lessons restarting again on Monday 3rd January 2022. Any parents whose children attend lessons should get reminded in the weeks before so they don’t need to attend for those two weeks over the festive season.
In the Bistro, we have launched our 2021 Costa Christmas range of drinks running from now until 29th December. After a workout, as well as the usual drinks, we also have below to enjoy with friends and family as well as being a great way to keep warm from the cold outside.

• Quality Street Toffee Penny Latte
The Bistro is open every day 0900 to 1300 and weekdays 1500 to 1800.
From November we are bringing back the Member of the Month competition with the first winner announced in the December newsletter. Prizes are still to be confirmed but should you wish to nominate someone, please let staff know and a winner will be decided at the end of the month.
We are currently running a Kids Go Free offer at Roko. For anyone aged 5-15, they can be added to a full adult at a cost of £10 and they then get membership for the next 12 months. This is a great offer to include children onto your membership this month to be able to bring them along for activities like using the pool.
We have recently completed works behind the scenes which you may not be aware of. As some of you know we recently had an issue with hot water in the early morning and we have since completed extensive works in our boiler room to fix this problem and ensure it shouldn’t happen again. We have also had works done on the lighting in the club and in particular the emergency lighting throughout to better show exit routes.
