Chiswick Newsletter October 2021

18th October 2021 | Chiswick

Manager’s Welcome

Welcome to October’s newsletter. I trust this finds everybody well, and enjoying some form of normality once again.

Things are ticking over nicely at the club, and it is wonderful to see so many people back and enjoying the facilities. Our classes are starting to fill up, and the gym floor is gradually getting its buzz back! We are seeing more and more familiar faces, which is so encouraging, and such a delight to see more people back.

- They Can Have A Free Day Pass During October

You are more likely to achieve your fitness goals when you work out with a buddy. And right now, throughout October, your friends can get a FREE day pass at the club. Tag your friends on our free day Facebook post or email them this link: https://www.roko.co.uk/chiswick/offers/choose-free-day

Group Exercise Update

If you have been a regular attendee of our classes, you will know that they can get booked up very quickly. Unfortunately, we seem to be slipping back in to previous habits of classes being fully booked, but not fully attended. Therefore I would kindly ask that if you are booked on a class, and you find yourself unable to attend, that you cancel either via the app, the website, or over the phone. This will allow us to call another member to fill the spot. We have no desire to start charging for missed classes, so in order to avoid this, please do ensure your spot is cancelled. I have been asked on many occasions to put on extra classes, however I will not be able to do so if the ones we do have on continue to have low attendance, as spaces are not cancelled.

Barrier Update

Our barrier is now fully functional again – thank you for your patience. This should make the parking situation much better, particularly on a weekend. However, please do always respect the signage, and do not tailgate other members in to the car park. This could cause harm to your vehicle, so please do refrain from doing so.

Spa Update

We were delighted to be able to reopen the spa a couple of weeks ago, however we have now encountered further issues with it. We will continue to monitor the situation, and reopen it as soon as it is safe to do so. We are working on a long term solution for this – I appreciate this is frustrating, and can only assure you that we are working as hard as we can to get it reopened fully.

Road Restrictions

As a reminder, you now cannot turn right out of the white gates at the front of the club, unless you have a permit to travel down Hartington Road. We do appreciate that these restrictions are frustrating, and not well signed posted, however please do take care to avoid any potential fines – please ask us if you are unsure on any of these.

As always, thank you once again for your loyalty to the club. We very much look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Member Spotlight

Marathon season is now well and truly back underway, and one of our members is giving café manager Eric a run for his money in terms of marathons completed! Please see below from one of our longstanding members, Lawrence Kormornick:

I ran London Marathon for the fifth time earlier this month to raise money for LOOK, helping children with sight loss. It is a small charity based in Hereford and most of the money gets to the kids. The aim is to support visually impaired young people, helping them to thrive. One of their main priorities is helping them to find work. The Director, Charlotte, is visually impaired and is gradually losing sight by the day.

I ran the marathon with my daughter Tamara, her first, and what an incredible experience to share together. We started at the back because of a calf strain and we met some incredible people like Freddie who has non- verbal speech through his tablet, running his first full marathon for MENCAP (a truly humbling experience).  So far we have raised together over £3000 for LOOK and our target is £5000. So please could you help LOOK by clicking on this link:

I also did The Hampton Court Half Marathon on 19th September and the Hackney Half on 26 September.  I had to withdraw from the Manchester Marathon due to the 'super cold' but I am hoping to do the Kingston Half later this month. It's so good that life is gradually returning to normal. Especial thanks to Eric and Ivo for all their help and encouragement and Fusia (Racek) for the fantastic sports massages that got me to the start line.

Huge thanks to Roko members and friends who have already given to LOOK so generously and for all your support. We welcome other donations to help with their wonderful work.
