York Newsletter March 2016

1st March 2016 | York

Manager’s Welcome

Wow isn’t time flying, spring is here with the promise of lighter nights and a little sunshine on the wish list.

Speaking of wish lists, after receiving member comment cards we have invested in areas of the club with the aim of enhancing your experience. We have bought a brand new top of the range stereo for the poolside to get you really into the spirit of our fab poolside classes as well as some new water aids for adults and children alike to enjoy when they are in the pool. Upstairs in the gym 17 pieces of equipment have been re-upholstered and we have replaced 2 TRX straps on the jungle gym.

On a personal note it’s great to see so many members and staff signing up for the events we are supporting and seeing you all training in the gym together is really inspirational and I think I will certainly be signing up to the next challenge… although the Dirty Weekend event does look very tough!

Yours in fitness

Gary Jepson, General Manager

New Personal Trainer
We would like you to welcome and introduce you to our new Personal Trainer Phil Ward, who joined us in February; we asked Phil a few questions so you could get to know a little about him

How did you get into fitness?
I was a young 16 year old who along with my two mates agreed we should all become personal trainers and own a gym one day.  Some (Cough) years later after being made redundant I found myself with the ideal opportunity to change direction in my career and finally realise my dream.

What is your speciality when training clients?
Patience.  All Personal trainers can write great programs, but finding the client’s level of ability and exploring new and innovative ways to help them achieving their goals takes patience and understanding.  As Personal Trainers we find most exercises easy but ensuring the clients understand and can perform the exercise correctly is the skill to the job.

What is your biggest success story to date here at Roko?
As I am new to Roko I am sure I will be answering this question again, but to date my biggest success is seeing how my clients have succeeded in their goals and beyond..  That’s the thrill of the job to me.

Name your favourite film
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  A classic of its day and who would not like to be seen in the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

What is your favourite meal (try & be healthy!)
Sweet mustard salmon with garlicky veg – Only 495 Kcal. Very low in sugar and salt with a good balance of macronutrients (proteins, carbs and fat) plus a good source of  Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron and omega-3s

What is your ‘party trick’?
I don’t necessarily have a party “trick” but my ability to talk to anyone means that I am the perfect party guest.

Is personal training for you?
We all need a little help with exercise sometimes, whether we're just starting out or we've been at it for a long time. Still, there are people who shy away from personal training, unsure of what they'll get out of the experience or whether it's worth the money. There are a number of reasons people work with personal trainers.  Some want an individual program so they can lose weight or get in shape while others simply need to be held accountable for their workouts.   Wherever you are in your exercise journey, a personal trainer may be just what you need to take it to the next level.

All our Personal Trainers offer FREE ½ hour taster sessions, please look at their Bio’s on the notice boards and book yours at the gym desk or reception.
