Club News

Since the government announced a relaxation of lockdown to allow business to re-open under guidance; we at the club, before opening and during our first month of operation, have been working extremely hard to ensure we are doing everything we can to ensure that our members and staff are comfortable returning to the club.

We appreciate that we are all adapting to the new normal.

We ask all our members to follow the simple messages we have outlined in the club and through our media channels to ensure we are keeping everyone safe. We appreciate everyone supporting the club and following the COVID-19 secure guidance. If anyone has any questions on these processes please do not hesitate to ask within in club.

5 simple key in-club Covid guidance messages to remember are:
• Don't come to the club if you are feeling unwell or showing any symptoms
• Wash your hands and use hand sanitiser as often as you can
• Wipe down all equipment before and after use with the spray and paper towel provided
• Maintain social distancing in club at all times
• Wear a face covering when moving around the club (not while exercising)

Roko App
If you are not already aware we have launched our new app (with the white background) and we have now turned off the old app (burgundy background)

In the changing environments we strongly encourage everyone to download the app – we are utilising it for all group exercise class bookings, swim lane bookings, gym class inductions and, most importantly, push notifications to communicate any changes or news with immediate notice.

Gym Floor Classes
Keep a close eye on our timetable the next coming weeks as we will slowly but surely be adding  in our signature Rok-X gym floor classes again.  These will either be held in a studio or on the gymfloor at a lower capacity.

We hope to introduce with either Core-X,  Body-X which will not require us to use any kit for more safety of the class.

Personal Training News
Personal training sessions are back in full swing and clients are keen to get back and hit their goals after 4 long months of the club being closed.
We offer a variety of training sessions from a variety of Personal Trainers. No matter what your goal is whether it be large or small we have a trainer that can help you.
We also have a brand new trainer starting with us the week commencing the 14th of September.  His name is Charlie, so please lets all give him a big warm Roko welcome.
Keep an eye out on the profile board for more information on Charlie and what he specialises in and his personal interests and how and why he became a personal trainer.

Studio Classes

It’s been a while and everything seems a little different, and it’s not all been plain sailing, but, we are gradually getting things back to some sort of normal.

We have reduced our class sizes in line with UK Active and government guidelines and because of this we are pleased to say we are adding more classes to our timetable to enable you all to join in the classes you love.

Our Dance guru Fesa is back on Tuesdays at midday and we have been able to add 2 more aqua classes, yoga and a later evening Body Balance.  As the months roll on we hope to see more of your favourites being added.

The one thing that does pop up from time to time is that on the App it shows the class as full but when it starts we have spaces. As in pre-lockdown time and in this current climate we are asking you all to be considerate and cancel your place when not able to attend.  We do understand that occasionally we have a gremlin in the system and booking and cancelling can’t be completed but did you know that you can use your online account to book and cancel.  Just go through the Roko internet page and you will see ‘Log in to your account’.  Use your membership number and password as for the App and voila(!) you’re in.  This helps greatly with everybody getting a fair chance to join classes.

We’ve also taken on board feedback with regard to App and in-club booking.  For each class we will have 4 spaces that can be booked in club, once those spaces have gone it’s over to booking on the App or using your online account.  We feel that this is a fair way of booking.  If you do have issues with your App please don’t hesitate to come and see us.

We are also working hard to improve and implement live streaming of our classes to increase the number of people who can access them. You can currently book to livestream some of our Mind and Body classes, and we will soon be announcing dates of when livestreaming of our High Energy classes will be available. Sound quality has been impeding the implementation but we have found a solution are currently testing and rolling out the improved livestreaming product. Our High Energy class livestream will not include Les Mills classes at this time due to licensing restrictions.

We look forward to seeing you in classes, we have missed your smiles and energy and the buzz that you get is felt by us when teaching you.  Here’s to staying safe and getting fit and fitter!

Use our cleaning stations, follow our Covid procedures and enjoy being back at your club.

Over Lockdown our instructor team worked hard to keep members and non-members alike motivated and challenged throughout.  It was tough, but we adapted and with the help of Facebook, Instagram and Zoom we managed to keep our community of fitness fans together!!

Check out Jess’ article on how livestreaming classes helped keep her mentally and physically motivated whilst keep her participants motivated and challenged physically and mentally too.

Lockdown

-by Jess

I bet you're all just as sick of hearing the phrase 'these unprecedented times' as much as I am, but it does really sum up the last 6 months doesn't it?! On Friday the 20th March, I watched the announcement that the gyms would indeed be closing whilst training my last client of the day. Although we had somewhat anticipated a national 'lockdown', I don't think any of us were quite prepared for the following months...!

I'm glad to say neither me, nor my family contracted coronavirus, however we all had to adapt very quickly to a new reality with no gym! So within the first week of lockdown I began a private Facebook group for my clients (both old and current!) that offered them over 12 different workouts per week. We had Body Attack style aerobics, resistance band conditioning classes, and even a 'Wine Down' stretch class on a Friday evening! I joined in with every single one of them, to keep myself fit and active, but mostly to keep me sane too! We built a fantastic community of like-minded individuals that wanted to keep moving even without the gym. It just shows that even with minimal equipment, some less-than-ideal workout spaces, and some quite hilarious workout-interruptions, we came out stronger than ever - managing to keep this up for a whopping 23 weeks!

I really hope that you're loving being able to choose to come back to the gym now if you feel ready, but I think lockdown has definitely opened our eyes to how much we can do with just our bodyweight and a bit of community motivation. In hindsight, I feel strangely thankful for the 'unprecedented times' that were thrust upon us; I learnt so much about teaching via various technological mediums, I spent more time baking, reading, and running outdoors, and I remembered that exercise is so incredibly important for the mind; for self-worth, resilience, and our sense of achievement.

If you are still unsure whether to make the return to the club then check out our livestream classes all available on Zoom.  All you need is your device and a space.  Currently we have all our holistic classes available and we hope to bring you cardio classes very soon.
