Nottingham Newsletter April 2022

8th April 2022 | Nottingham

manager’s welcome

Welcome to your member’s April Newsletter!

It really does feel like summer is just around the corner - the clocks have gone forward, some warmer weather has made an appearance already and our outdoor pool, for those of you that want to brave the not so balmy temperature, opened on the 4th of April.

You could be still on track with your New Year fitness goals or potentially looking at setting some new goals ahead of the summer holiday season…

Whatever you’re working towards at the moment, we’d like to encourage you to try something NEW and really get the most out of your club membership! You could be a regular gym goer – switch it up and go for a swim. Our poolside area is open right away from the club’s opening and is available until 30 minutes before the club’s closure on an evening.

Or try…
- a class (choose one of our 60+ available)
- a refreshed gym programme

And remember, the whole team are here to help – so please don’t hesitate to speak to us if there’s any assistance, support or advice that you require.

See you in your club very soon,

Your Roko Nottingham Team

Gym Floor News

Our gym refurb is now complete.  Our Matrix Power racks, and deadlift platforms were the final instalments and were delivered and installed at the end of March.

They really benefit the free-weights area and are developed specifically for power training; the efficient design of Power Rack helps users get more out of every set and rep. A height indicator and a coloured locking pin make bar-level changes quick and easy; a fully enclosed design optimizes spotting.

Group Exercise News

We now have over 60+ classes on our group exercise timetable available to all levels of fitness. Holistic classes ranging to hard core Hiit! Something for everyone.

Participant’s capacity is now almost back up to pre-covid levels.  Classes can be booked and cancelled via the Roko App.  There are still members who think it is ok not to cancel their classes if they can’t make it or just book multiple classes and not bother turning up.  This is frustrating for the members who try to book and can’t when the class is full and is also frustrating for the instructor.  PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE TO OTHER MEMBERS AND CANCEL WHEN YOU CAN’T COME TO A CLASS – IT IS LITERALLY JUST ONE CLICK ON THE APP SO NOT A LOT TO ASK.

Serial offenders we know who you are!!

Class Focus

Aqua
Exercising in water has endless rehab and prehab possibilities, you may have seen Nottingham Forest walking up and down the pool, why do they do this? Well, it helps to decrease lactic acid uptake (DOMs to you guys) improve mobility safely and destresses the body.  In water we can work with the resistance of the water to create strength endurance workouts, work with bigger ranges of movement safely to increase mobility and also the pressure of the water can improve breathing function, blood pressure and liver function due to hydrostatic pressure of water.

So, working out in water not so much for the faint hearted but for those who want to see some real improvement in their health and fitness.

Easter Opening

The Roko swim team

We are pleased to share with you some of the highlights of the Roko Swim School over the last month, as usual we would like to thank you for your continued support for our programme.

Recent conversations with parents have highlighted the importance of swimming as a vital life-skill in terms of safety but also from a confidence and social skill point of view. Our group lessons play an important in this delivery.

We were pleased to share your child's progress at our recent 10-week milestone where we invited parents/carers to view lessons on the poolside, this was a great success with many positive comments from parents with regards to their children’s progress, we will be holding every 10 weeks.

The programme continues to grow both in terms of numbers and quality, your positive feedback helps in this regard.  Our continued commitment to small class sizes ensures your child receives the attention and instruction that they require.  We welcome Bliss to the team who will add additional support to the programme at busier times.

Our recent Easter crash course programme was also healthy subscribed, and we intend to build on this success in the summer.  Watch this space :-)
It is also timely to remind you that we have a number of classes, ranging from adult and child classes, ducklings to stage 9 and also have a competitive swim group which aims to cater for those young people who wish to further develop more refined points of technique in all the main swimming strokes.

We use both the main pool  as well as the splash pool and will plan to  utilise the newly reopened outside pool for contrasting activities near the end of selected lessons, weather permitting of course.

In addition to our group lessons we do also offer more be-spoke fully-inclusive  1-to-1 or 2-to-1 sessions to cater for all needs, including adults.

We would also to thank ALL members for their support during the more busier teaching times, especially at the weekends. We do, of course, guarantee a serious swimming lane for you during these busier times.

We hope you have a restful Easter

Bringing you a three-part workshop series this spring that acknowledges what is going on in your life and allows you to build and explore a practise in a way that fully supports that.  We share a system with you where the focus is on spinal orientation and sacrum stability.  Each workshop will integrate breathwork (pranayama), meditation and movement (asana); the movement will be slower and with longer duration holds, with plenty of space to draw through the philosophy.

Next up, ALCHEMY2 is on Saturday 9th April from 11am-1pm, followed by a vegan lunch in the studio prepared by The Kitchen Prep Co in Nottingham.

Alchemy 2 looks at how we use practice to invite vitality and nourishment into the body. It will be energising,  with a more vibrant and uplifting feel to it.     You don't have to have already done ALCHEMY1 to attend.

This is not a hot practise; however, we will ensure an ambient temperature for comfort throughout.

ALCHEMY2 is supported by Sweaty Betty Nottingham, expect a little goody bag and a £15 ‘Just For You’ voucher to use instore … and one lucky person will win a personal shopping experience in the Nottingham store and be gifted of a pair of new season leggings of their choice!
