Chiswick Newsletter October 2018

19th October 2018 | Chiswick

Manager’s Welcome

Welcome to the October Newsletter, it has been another busy month behind the scenes.

We are delighted to announce that we have completed a deal with Matrix Fitness to supply the brand new 7XI cardio kit for the gym floor. This will see our current Life Fitness range traded out and replaced with the Matrix kit. With delivery dates set for December the 11th and 12th, the kit will be here before Christmas. There will be plenty of news to come in the coming weeks so please keep a look out in the club.

The great news is that the changes don’t stop in the gym with the Lounge furniture being replaced on the same day.

We will then complete Phase 2 with the resistance kit being replaced with the Matrix Ultra range in June 2019!

It is also a month of staff changes with Shereen leaving in October and Jennie in November. Both have been with the team for over 3 years and will be missed but go on to exciting opportunities that we wish them well in.

Please don’t forget to reach out if there is anything that we can do to help, otherwise we look forward to seeing you in the club soon.

Fitness News

- Jack Dillon  Fitness Manager -

A spooky welcome to October. I would firstly like to thank all of you that participated in National Fitness Day on the 26th of September, you all contributed to make it an amazing day. Thank you to those who met with me over coffee and gave me some feedback about the gym and classes. I will do my best to move forward and take on board your valuable comments. With Halloween fast approaching it is hard not to get caught up buying sweet treats for the trick or treaters, not to mention the Christmas food starting to hit the shelves in the supermarkets! This makes October a key month to keep consistent with your training to give you the best lead up to the end of the year. You can do it!

National fitness day here was a great success, you may have seen our board: “what fitness means to you” which we have decided to condense into key themes and we’ll feed that back to you. It’s been really inspiring to learn what fitness means individually to members as it varies so much. We are here to support you in your journey to ‘fitness’.

We also had some gym floor challenges with prizes, so thank you to all of those who took part. Our winners of one month free membership were:

Matt and Clara – CONGRATULATIONS to both of you from us all! Matt did an amazing time in the 500m row of 1min24sec and Clara hung in there for 1min38sec. INCREDIBLE efforts from both of you! We had some great classes throughout the day including Bootcamp and Sunset Yoga so here are some pictures for you to enjoy if you’ve not already seen on our social media pages.

Gym Challenge
In September we started our monthly Gym floor challenges! Each month will be hosted by a new member of the fitness team and this month is hosted by myself (Jack Dillon) The challenge is…

*How long can you hold the plank position for?*

So ‘say yes’ if you are asked if you would like to give it a try. If you see me come say hi and that you’d like to give it a go.

Don’t forget to book your Roko fits!

classfit. : gives you the opportunity to meet with one of our qualified and experienced instructors to get the full run down on all things class related.  What do these classes include and does beginner really mean beginner?  Which one should you choose to meet your own fitness goals and how and when can you book. These sessions will last 30 minutes and can be booked at reception.

swimfit. : is our welcome to all things aquatic at Roko.  Our swimming specialist will guide you through the pool based activities available within the Club to help you really make the most of your membership.   We are keen to point you in the right direction to ensure you fully enjoy your swim sessions and reach your goals quicker.   You will have the chance to ask everything you need about swimming at Roko and to get in the water and try out a session of your choice. These sessions will late 30 minutes and can be booked at reception. swimfit. sessions will be taken by Adam on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings.

Rok-x
To any of you that are new members or haven’t been to one of our Rok-X classes I would highly recommend you give it a go. Rok-X classes are 30 minute HIIT classes to help you step away from the treadmills and give your workout the punch it needs. We have them most days at lunch time and in the evening.

Highlight classes this month

Pilates – 09:00
Body-X – Thursday 11:30
Indoor Cycle – Friday 9:30

App
As you may know our Roko app is now live so you can book classes from your phone. All you need to do is go into your app store and download Roko health clubs app. Here you will need your membership id number, which you can get from the reception, then create an account. You will be able to see all of the week’s classes and book with ease.

Equipment
We are currently still looking to add to our gym floor equipment so any requests please feel free to email me on jdillon@chiswickbridge.roko.co.uk, I would also love some feedback on the gym floor itself and I will do my best sort it out.

Many Thanks, Jack Dillon

Maintenance Update

~ Royston Jones – Maintenance Manager

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your new maintenance manager. I’ve been here almost a month already and enjoying meeting members. Thank you for being so welcoming. I started my time here with an intensive STA Pool Plant Course with Jen Sanders our Deputy GM which was informative and interesting. I’m here 5days per week and any feedback regarding maintenance issues do please complete member feedback forms or see myself and I will action items as promptly as I can.

Best wishes, Royston.

What is your job role? Receptionist in the front of house team

How long have you been at Roko and what did you do before? Just a few weeks. Before this I was studying at the University of Westminster doing my degree in Sociology and Criminology.

Favourite things about your job? Rolling towels of course! Enjoying working with the team who are great fun.

Do you have any hobbies? I play videogames and basketball and enjoy listening to music and watching TV.

What’s the most interesting fact about you? I’m good at every sport/activity I partake in. I have medals and trophies from football and cricket to swimming and running.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what would you have with you and why? Someone else because I get lonely and need attention.

Other News:

*Our ‘mixed recycling’ bins are now up and running – they are made of recycled cardboard and the bin liners are also recycled. Clear signs stating what waste to put in which bin should ensure that they are easy for staff and members to use. They will be monitored during October (month 2) and if working well more recycle stations will be available in the changing rooms.

Please note that coffee cups are NOT recyclable – general waste ONLY
Food waste – general waste ONLY
Single use plastics ie. sweet and cereal bar wrappers; crisp packets; plastic bags – general waste ONLY
Mixed recycling - plastic bottles, mixed paper/card, food & drink cans ONLY

Any feedback / questions about recycling please see Clare Langer (fitness administrator).
